Opportunity to donate for Important Charitable Work in Kathmandu Nepal

Project Location Two (background below...)

Kathmandu Children’s Home with 15 children 1 minute from our house! We already paid the money for some of these but if you want to sponsor we can use this money elsewhere.

Project Description Total Cost
School Fees Local governement school is "free" but you have to pay about $30 per child per year $450
Outdoor toilet Inside toilet smells the entire house very badly (trust me) Birna will do the work himself to put in an outdoor toilet so indoor is only for emergency, sick kids etc. Most of the preparation is already in place (pipes etc) $70
Water filter Water comes from a well or a nearby stream - not safe to drink so we want to buy a ceramic water filter $100
Fix leaky roof Leaky roof needs one inch of concrete mixed with bondcrete accross entire surface. Cannot do indoor jobs until leaking stopped. Monsoon starts next week. $150
Clean and paint walls Water damaged walls need clean and paint $180
Floor converings Basic mats so that not living on concrete floor $210
Cover well Saftey so kids do not fall into the well (3 m deep) $90
Cooking gas Gas for 1 month is $18 so annual gas is this. Now they use wood file outside but monsoon in one week $216
Double bunks Trying to make space in the bedroom of the boys (need 4 bunks) $80
Rent One month rent is $90 $1080
Electricity One month $10 $120
Clothing new cloths for all 15 kids $150

Shrine room

with the rest of the house in tatters they take special care of the prayer room, so if we upgrade the rest, it is obvious we need to upgrade this room as well

$250

15 children Ages from 4-12 years from remote areas of Nepal. Gorka, Humla, Parbhat, Rosuwa.

Founder Birna Singh Rai (Niras) is 30 years old. His mother died with jaundice when he was nine years old and his family left him in Kathmandu. He found a job in the Mechi hospital. His father is still living in the Morong Urlabari village and he is blind. His wife’s name is Barsha Rai and she is 32 years old. He grew up wanting to help children in need. They employ a didi, Tertha Rai who is 26 years old and earns $50 a month.

Birna spends the whole day asking in many places and collecting small amounts of money for the children. He has a book in which he records the donations received, which are usually in the form of rice or dahl. Tertha works nearby as a house cleaner, cook and washing woman and earns $50 a month.

They have a 2 year lease and the house owner lives nearby. The adjoining land is for sale. It’s area is 12 Anna and the price is $72,000 AUS. His rented land is 8 anna in area.

He started 2 years ago, before that he was living in the house his wife ow works in as a night guard. He worked in the “Mother Nepal” children’s home during the day, and he used to bring vegetables and clothes there.
